A Wedding in the Woods – Rob & Kathy’s Magical Day at The Woods at Oakley
Some weddings just stick with you—and not just because of the location, or the light, or the styling (though let me tell you, this one had all of that). But because the people at the heart of it are your people.
I’ve known Rob and Kathy for over ten years. So when they asked me to capture their wedding, it wasn’t just an honour—it was personal. There’s something incredibly humbling about being trusted with someone’s most important memories, especially by people who’ve known you since before you had a camera permanently glued to your hands.
Finding photography was the making of me. I have no idea where I’d be without it—but I do know I wouldn’t be here, retelling love stories like this one. I owe so much of that journey to the people who supported me along the way, and Rob & Kathy are part of that story. Being there, behind the lens for them, felt like coming full circle.
The Woods at Oakley – A Venue Like No Other
If you’ve never heard of The Woods at Oakley, it’s not your typical venue—and that’s exactly what makes it so unforgettable. Nestled deep in nature, it’s an open woodland clearing that feels like something out of a storybook.
Bluebells carpeted the forest floor. Shafts of sunlight danced through the leaves. And all around us was this deep, quiet magic—the kind you can’t fake or stage. You just have to feel it.
I’ve shot weddings in stately homes, in rustic barns, in fields and gardens and coastal cliffs—but this? This felt like walking through a fairy tale. It wasn’t just beautiful—it was alive with possibility.
From Enchanted Ceremony to Personal Festival
The day began with a ceremony that felt intimate and sacred. With birdsong as their soundtrack and ancient trees as their witnesses, Rob and Kathy exchanged vows surrounded by those who love them most. The emotion in the air was palpable—quiet tears, belly laughs, and a kiss that made the whole forest cheer.
But once the vows were spoken? That’s when things really took off.
Their reception transformed the woodland into their very own festival. Think barefoot dancing, food trucks nestled among the trees, drinks flowing under fairy lights, and a soundtrack that didn’t stop all night. It was relaxed, raw, joyful—exactly the way a wedding should be when you strip away all the fluff and keep only what matters.
The Power of Friendship & Storytelling
Shooting this wedding was more than a job—it was a reminder of why I do this in the first place. Not for the Pinterest-perfect details (though there were plenty of those), but for the people. For the emotion. For the stories I get to tell, frame by frame.
Rob & Kathy didn’t just plan a wedding—they created an experience. And as Mr & Mrs Currie danced into the night under the canopy of trees, surrounded by lanterns, friends, and a whole lot of love, I felt so damn lucky to be part of it.
