Clearwell Castle in January is something special. Short days, old stone, warm candlelit rooms, and a couple who filled every corner of it with colour. Emily and Clarissa told me they loved the soft, natural, colourful feel of my work, and their day was made for exactly that.

A ceremony full of colour
From the hand-painted welcome board to the wedding party in sage and teal, the colour carried through everything. The ceremony room was packed with friends and family, and I kept out of the way and let it all unfold naturally, from the nerves at the start to the cheers at the end.

Winter portraits at Clearwell Castle
January weather kept us guessing, so the umbrella came out and we made the most of it. Clearwell’s stone archways and terrace look brilliant in soft winter light, and ten minutes outside gave us some of my favourite photos of the day.

Speeches, little ones and a packed dance floor
The speeches had the room in stitches, the kids stole the show, and the first dance on that chequered floor turned straight into a proper party.

Planning a winter wedding at Clearwell Castle?
Winter at Clearwell is underrated. The castle looks incredible against bare trees and moody skies, the rooms inside are warm and full of character, and the whole day feels cosy in a way summer can’t match. Plan your couple photos for early afternoon, because the light goes quickly in January, and keep a nice umbrella on standby.
